The Optomec system allows the user to use microscale laser-assisted manufacturing process (aerosol jet printing) to create high resolution 3D/conformal interconnects with feature sizes less than 10 micron in width and 1 micron in thickness for a variety of electronic and sensor-on-chip devices to facilitate their miniaturization. The technology can also be used for non-planar antenna as well.
The ExOne® Binder Jetting process creates functional parts with superior wear characteristics, fast print speeds, no support structures and enables machine customization for material requirements. Stainless steel, bronze, tungsten, silica, ceramic, and glass powders can be printed with M-Flex.
Z 310 (3D SYSTEMS)
This binder-jet power-bed system (Z510/310 machines) allow you to spread thin layers over the build platform and then selectively jet a binder from inkjet print heads over the core layer which causes the core to solidify. The build platform lowers with each subsequent layer resulting in a full three-dimensional model. Once complete the part undergoes a post-processing step to improve its material properties. The MSAM researchers/collaborators and the affiliated industrial partners use these systems for the development of innovative implants from biodegradable and biocompatible materials.
Custom Desktop Powder Bed Binder Jetting System
This custom desktop machine allows you to spread thin layers of titanium and other powders and selectively jets a binder from an inkjet print head to solidify the core powder. Printing parameters can be adjusted on a per-layer basis giving complete control over the build process. This is the perfect build platform for creating medical, dental and other high-value components such as jewelry.
CUSTOM IN-HOUSE BINDER-JET SYSTEM WITH ADDED PATENTED FEATURES
This is a custom workstation that was developed in-house to enable the fabrication of structures with heterogeneous porosity (varying density). The system is able to print in powder bases layers similar to regular binder jetting systems but also allow you to inject liquid into the same build.
The Stratasys F370 lets you print everything from fast, low-cost concept models to durable assemblies. And the Stratasys F370 gives the option of up to three different materials, along with our easy-to-remove soluble support material. Create complex parts and assemblies with no compromise on accuracy, detail and repeatability. Even for your earliest design iterations, you can expect Stratasys quality and dependability.
This ZEISS Xradia 520 Versa 3D X-ray Nano-CT scanner adds new degrees of flexibility for scientific discovery and non-destructive testing. Providing throughput thermographic imaging based on industry-best resolution and contrast (700 nm precision with a 70 nm voxel size), this system provides unique opportunity to conduct non-destructive imaging of additively manufactured parts. Innovative contrast and acquisition techniques opens new opportunities for the MSAM researchers/collaborators and the affiliated industrial partners to move beyond exploration and detect pores and cracks that are not detectable by any other CT scanner on the market.
High-Precision Optical Scanner
The contact-free AICON SmartScan optical scanning technology from Hexagon allows for very fast data acquisition and a high level of detail. Measurement fields from 60 mm up to 1,550 mm can be captured by changing the camera lenses and the base length. Working distance ranges from 340 mm to 1,500 mm, according to configuration. The white light scanner digitizes objects at a high speed irrespective of their size and complexity.
LASER SCANNING CONFOCAL MICROSCOPE
The Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope from Keyence combines a 3-in-1 system providing the convenience of an optical microscope with the analytical functions of an SEM and a roughness gauge. The system uses a UV laser and a 16-bit photomultipler to accurately obtain measurement data from a variety of samples made from matte black, clear, highly reflective materials and samples with steeply sloping side walls over 85°. The system has a magnification range of 50x to 24,000x enabling the collection of features at nano-level. The MSAM researchers/collaborators and the affiliated industrial partners use this system to analyze the surface quality of additive manufactured parts.
DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING PARTICLE SIZE AND SHAPE ANALYZER

Retsch Ball Mill
Planetary Ball Mills are used wherever the highest degree of fineness is required. The Ball Mill can quickly grind down to nano range. In addition to well-proven mixing and size reduction processes, these mills also meet all technical requirements for colloidal grinding and provide the energy input necessary for mechanical alloying. The extremely high centrifugal forces of a planetary ball mill result in very high pulverization energy and therefore short grinding times.
